Aqua Therapy

Rehabilitation that meets you where land-based exercise can't.

Aqua therapy in Burlington, Ontario

Water-based therapy in our on-site Burlington pool for people dealing with joint pain, post-surgical stiffness, arthritis, or chronic conditions where gravity makes everything harder.

What we treat

When the pool does what the gym can't.

Aqua therapy isn't a lesser version of rehab — it's a different tool for specific problems. Buoyancy reduces joint load by up to 90%, letting you move and strengthen in ways that aren't possible on land yet.

Post-Surgical Recovery

Hip and knee replacements, spinal surgery, ACL reconstruction — earlier movement, less pain, faster return to land-based rehab.

Arthritis & Joint Pain

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative joint conditions. Warm water reduces stiffness and allows pain-free strengthening.

Chronic Pain Conditions

Fibromyalgia, chronic low back pain, complex regional pain. Water provides a low-threat environment where movement feels safe again.

Balance & Fall Prevention

For older adults or anyone with balance impairments. The water provides a safe environment to challenge balance without the risk of falling.

Neurological Conditions

Stroke recovery, Parkinson's, MS — aquatic exercise supports mobility, coordination, and confidence in movement.

Pregnancy & Postpartum

Low-impact exercise during pregnancy, and gentle rehab postpartum. Buoyancy takes the pressure off while keeping you active and strong.

Our approach

Structured pool sessions, not just swimming laps.

Every session is guided by a physiotherapist with specific goals — range of motion targets, strength progressions, and functional milestones.

1
Land-based assessment first

We evaluate your condition, surgical history, and goals on land before designing your aquatic program. The pool is a tool — the plan comes first.

2
Guided pool sessions

One-on-one sessions with a physiotherapist in the water. Targeted exercises using buoyancy, resistance, and water pressure.

3
Progressive loading

As you improve in the water, we gradually increase resistance, depth, and complexity — bridging toward land-based exercise when you're ready.

4
Transition to land

Aqua therapy isn't forever. We build a clear bridge to gym-based or home exercise so your progress carries over to daily life.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about aqua therapy

Where can I find aqua therapy in Burlington?+

OMNI Health & Rehab offers aqua therapy right here in Burlington at 960 Cumberland Avenue. Our pool is on-site inside the Burlington Hall Sporting Club, so you check in with us and head straight to the water. No driving between locations. Give us a call at (905) 635-5711 and we'll get you booked in.

How much does aqua therapy cost?+

Your initial assessment is $125 for 60 minutes, where your Burlington physiotherapist evaluates your condition and builds a treatment plan. Follow-up sessions are $75 for 30 minutes. We direct bill all major Canadian insurers, WSIB, and motor vehicle accident claims, so most patients pay little or nothing out of pocket depending on their coverage.

Is aqua therapy good for arthritis?+

Yes, it's one of the best options for arthritis. The warm water at our Burlington pool takes pressure off sore joints while letting you move further than you can on land. Buoyancy reduces impact, and the warmth helps stiff joints loosen up. Most arthritis patients leave their sessions moving better and hurting less than when they walked in.

Do I need to know how to swim for pool therapy?+

Not at all. Our Burlington pool is about 5 feet deep throughout with no deep end, so you can stand comfortably the whole time. You're working one-on-one with your physiotherapist in the water the entire session, never alone. Plenty of our patients have never swum a lap in their life and do beautifully here.

How is aqua therapy different from regular physio?+

Regular physio happens on land, where gravity can make painful movements harder. In our Burlington pool, the water supports your body weight so you can move with less pain and more range. The warm temperature relaxes tight muscles too. It's the same physiotherapist-led treatment, just in an environment that's gentler on healing joints and tissues.

What should I wear to aqua therapy?+

Bring swimwear you can move in and a towel. Goggles are optional since you won't be putting your face under, and sandals or pool shoes are helpful for walking around the deck at our Burlington location. Change rooms and showers are on-site at the Burlington Hall Sporting Club. Most patients don't need medical clearance to start.
